True for the last part, but I don't think I am confused. Maybe I didn't separate out these enough in my posting. I am certainly aware of the difference.
...with you so far....
But when our ancestors came here, they brought their 'cultural crap' here, didn't they? What's the difference? Why a new rule for newer immigrants? (Hey but you better clarify what you mean by 'cultural crap' because that could mean a whole range of things. If you mean only that they should try in this new country to put aside ethnic rivalries in their country of origin, I am with you, but even that is very hard to do for someone who has grown up with it. But if you mean a Chinese person should go straight onto a diet of steak and potatoes.... :))
Yes, but you aren't suggesting that they leave behind all traces of their previous ethnicity and cultural values are you? Because that doesn't happen - and for many of those cultural values, shouldn't.
Ummmm - are you saying that they are coming to a country (here) where woman and children are free from abuse?
Leaving that aside, I agree with the basic principle that if you come to Oz then you abide by its laws, or else you make a very good case for why the rest of us should agree with you that the law should be changed to accommodate you.
Ah... that's the million dollar question though, isn't it? Many people have a different vision of what that is. Some 'cultural' things offend some people and not others. So while of course I agree with your statement, (as we don't want anyone here who doesn't behave appropriately), what does that mean to you? There are a lot of grey areas.
