Islam relegates women to the status of a possession - of her father, then her husband, then her son. She has no independent existence. In strict Islamic states like Saudi Arabia, a woman is not allowed by law to leave her house without her "owner" (her father, husband or son). In short, she is more or less like a slave and must always be led by her male master.
Since she is a loveual possession of her male master, she must always be veiled when in view of other men, because as the property of her male master, she is not allowed to give loveual pleasure to any other male. That is why Islamic societies observe the veil for women. A woman's loveuality is the property of her male owner.
Now this poses a serious problem when muslim males are in contact with western women who control their own loveuality. This notion - of a woman being on control of her loveuality - is so alien to a muslim male that he views a western woman as no more than a whore. Indeed among muslim men conversations often center around these "western whores, who are so easy". Western women are seen as filth, as things to denigrate and desecrate. If they had any self respect, they would stay at home under the veil, is what muslim males think.
In Sydney, we had the problem of gangs of moslem males gang raping white women. What stood out was that during the rapes, these men would call these women "christian whores, western whores" almost as if raping them was a right they had as moslem men. This is a pattern that emerges in most societies where moslems live alongside non moslems. Non moslem women immediately become a target for loveual obsession of moslem men, precisely because these women control their own loveuality.
In another strange case, a moslem rapist called to his defence the argument that since in his culture women were not so loveually provocative, his raping a western woman was "justified." In other words, in his world a woman did not have the right to talk to a man, and so because this lady talked to him, he had the right to rape her.
