Maybe all of the smokers have just gone home or switched to smokeless varieties - who knows - but given that Australians can't simply go across the border to get their smokes, I'm guessing the researchers have a pretty good handle on smoked tobacco use and it's pretty obvious that the ETS ban there has had a significant impact on smoking and on ETS exposure.
Way to go, Australia!. . .

Thanks to a concerted government campaign to curb tobacco use,
Australia probably has the lowest level of smoking anywhere in
the developed world, a study released on Friday showed.
Only 18,6 percent of men and 16,3 percent of women smoke daily,
compared with 40 percent of men and 32 percent of women in 1983.
Curtin University's Mike Daube predicted cigarettes could be as
rare as snuff within 25 years.
"What we can safely say on the basis of trends since 1983 is, if
those trends continue, then smoking in Australia will be down to
zero in 25 years," Professor Daube said.
According to the study, the Dutch are the world's top smokers
(34 percent), followed by Hungarians (33 percent) and Koreans
