That's correct. The major complaint at the time was that trams interfered with traffic flow. That is still true. Trams do move more people than buses and there is no problem with their ability to handle sharp corners.

However, Adelaide does not have the traffic problems and narrow streets of the other cities. We also do not have the population density and distances to travel that plague Melbourne and Sydney. We do have the rudest drivers in Australia to make up for that.

Trams could reduce the travel time for some commuters but the percentage of commuters working in the city centre seems to be reducing while most public transport travels to or through the city centre. I feel that research should be done to establish the start and destinations of all commuters and public transport designed to cater for those destinations rather than an ad hoc decision to add a few hundred metres to an existing track causing chaos and havoc and, currently, a mbuttive blowout in the estimate.
