whatever the history of caste intolerance, may be we can spare ourselves debating the history of it here, the modern india has come a long way in correcting it. believe it or not, the number one reason responsible for this correction does not arise from "low castes" who you might be thinking to be "fighting for their rights" (western style - squeaky grease gets the grease), but from the public minded concerned so-called "high castes" (hindu style - if it's wrong, it should be corrected; admittedly, this is not the case in some states like bihar). as is often the case with the social dynamics, the pendulum may have swung a bit too far.

the "untouchables" are ruling several states. instances of intolerance are far fewer. caste bestows no privilege, legally or vedantically, but may entail duties, vedantically - on those who may be so motivated, and there is no dearth of those, thank goodness. don't the damn missionaries and the damn commies tell you otherwise.

hindus, of all castes, do, in fact, love their caste, worts and all (if you think there are worts that's, i don't). it's only the damn commies who want abolition of castes - and the damn missionaires who want to use it for their own selfish ends of staying in business, for they can not get regular jobs - and are always waging wars on strawman of castes and satee. commies, missionaries and mommedans hate the entire hinduism - which explains why indian commies work in unison with hindu hating kirastani missionaries (from foot soldier all the way to the pope), and mommedan persons. commies and kirastanis love journalism and law as carreer goals so they can seek slimey spectacular redress for imagined or incidental wrongs, and drive indian media on the cheap and without accountability - the two handy carrer tools to abuse democracy and, in the process, dig a huge hole for india. the western media, always thursting to see juicy stories in foreign cultures, pick from this, and thus the west has allowed itself to be misinformed by indian commies adn missionaries. i say "misinform" because the west can not be expected to view this thing in context like the hindus can. (i mean, would you be interested in indian economic growth etc?). the commie idea is to get the west to view the aberrations as norms, and given the power of their propaganda and the power of abuse by the west from misunderstanding, you can make some hindus, probably arindam in this case, quite unhappy.

arindam should debate that with uncle al who is uniquely gifted to do quick evaluation.
