I'll change 'comes' to 'came'.
It doesn't matter where she came from or when she came here - the fact is she is here now, from God knows where, and working for a greater good.
Even if that good is for herself and her family, the net result benefits all.
Perhaps Ted is saying that a countries unity, peace and prosperity comes from a large number of small individual achievments (some so tiny that they are not even noticed by others around them), but put together they result in a greater prosperity for all.
He could be saying that individual strength, multiplied millions of times over by the number of faceless people in a country, is the real backbone of a society that gives it its undying strength.
Most of us are faceless people in a crowd - wouldn't it be nice to know that whatever we do, no matter how small, it results in a benefit for all?
