Singapore cannot be complacent ...it should take steps to prepare for the worse possible scenario...
What is the worse possible consequences and fallout ... let's look at where the fallout will be landing.
- Cut ting diplomatic ties ..... Fallout: it is not Singapore's choosing. Others will see that Singapore, a tiny dot nations, is being bullied by its continental size neighbour. It confirms the Indonesia's fear... Australia really has hidden agenda in SE Asia.
- Cancelling the agreement on base for the training of SAF soldiers. Fallout: Loss of one training base....the repercussion is minimal Other bases could be found in neighbouring countries...in Loas, Vietnam, Mynmar, are possible locations. These countries would welcome the economic benefits of hosting the SAF.
- Stopping investments: Fallout; Singapore's investment in Australia totalled $19.1 billion as of December31 last year and Australian investment in Singapore totals slightly over $10 billion. Australia has more to lose. Australia has more to lose.
- Stopping import of raw produce; Fallout: Singapore import tens of billions of dollar worth of meat, fish products, fruits, vegetable, cheese, and wines from Australia more than any other countries in the world. Australia do not buy any raw produce, except flowers... from Singapore. Singapore should look at buying more from the USA, Europe, Latin America, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa....Australia should not be given preference in our food purchases.

- Cancelling air agreement : Fallout: It is time that Singapore cancel fifth freedom rights for Qantas...now Qantas could paying pbuttengers between Singapore and London, ...and between Singapore and countries in Asia. Cancelling the preferential air agreement will mean Qantas will have to cancel flights beyond Singapore, and allowed only flights between Singapore and Australia. It will mean, a loss about 3 billions dollars in revenue annually. Singapore do not have fifth freedom rights...ie it cannot carry pbuttenger between Sydney and the USA.
- Changing role for Singapore in ASEAN Fallout: Singapore is the strongest allies of Australia in Asian regions. Singapore will stop playing this strategic role...It is not Singapore loss.
The list could go on much longer....but I have demonstrated enough to show that Singapore will not really suffer as badly as Australia if there are any the fallout. Australia will be biting its nose to spite its face.
