FWIW, I think Howard stated his stand on the matter very well and very clearly, not that I like him. He asked that Australians respect Singapore's sovereignty and had on numerous occasions said that there is nothing much else that he can do and also advise others, oppositions and special interest groups not to misled the Australian public into thinking that there is still a chance that the rest sentence will be commuted.
Even Alexander Downer, the foreigner minister stated his case against pursuing it further. Though I don't like the both of them much, I have to take my hat off to them for seeing things so clearly amidst the misguided public outcry. When Kevin Rudd suggested sanctions and retaliations against Singapore, Downer called him childish.
Both Howard and Downer even tried to explain to the public the workings of the various avenues (ICJ etc) sought by interest groups. But some people are just too blind to see and it explains their disappointment, plus that fact courts in Australia are just too lenient to drug offenders.
The Australian government (not the opposition parties) will really disappoint you if you think what you wrote below will happen. Yes, you might think it is nice to look at, but they are your own interests and no one is going to buy it ...... :))
