That is only one University though it is good news. The overall trend across the nation is still down. Perhaps Perth will be somewhat of a boom town: Sydney housing is impossibly expensive: you can't realistically afford to have both a house and a family.

The glut occured for two reasons: 1 The Governments immigration of IT workers before the downturn; thereby setting the scene for a glut and displacing the prudent development of home grown talent. 2 The Government unbelievably and unconsienably continued with a truely mbuttive IT worker immigration program for nearly two years after the downturn in the IT sector when unemplyment in the industry was well up. Perhaps they thought they could join the Aussies already working as Taxi drivers?

The Dot-Com bust on internet speculation type virtual products was not the primarly reason for the downturn. Many corporate IT departments downsized because IT just was not bringing in any value to justify the budgets spent.

And the answer will be immigration again. I say let the companies suffer: we'll soon have proper traineeship programs in industry, ibetter support for local universities and perhaps nvestment in more efficient products and perhaps a few old timers attracted back in again as well as non IT graduates shifting over from other professions.
