David See the report of the employee advocate today - people are losing conditions already after the laws have only been in place a couple of months. Oh, right. We are going to compete with countries where they pay about $US1 per day like China, Vietnam etc. What a load of crap. Just like the Federal Government (and the opposition for that matter) you have no idea how Australia can fit within the world economy. I'll tell you one thing, reducing wages is not going to make Australia compebreastive with low wage countries. What we need to do is to stop relying on digging quarries and start developing high value added industries so we can afford to maintain our living standards. Neither major party has any ideas on this and it shows - our foreign debt is going through the roof. We are just asking for a fair go, a decent living standard, decent wages and conditions. Total crap. It is no coincidence that we have a shortage of tradies about 10 years after privatisation of the government instrumentalities who trained a lot of the tradies. Apprentices are paid crap wages, always have been, and if a business can't make a profit when paying low wages then maybe they should look at their business plan, if they have one.
So, instead of cheering when our wages and conditions are reduced to a pittance, why don't the farmers support employees when we're screwed, and we'll support them when they get screwed. If we're all being paid a pittance for produce or labour why not support each other?
