brown people in white people's jail: a local story in usa had it that one very old hindu couple travelling from india got imprisoned in atlanta, georgia, on drug charges because they carried with them a well wrapped parcel of sugar that was handed to them by a local guy in india whom they wanted to do a coutesey-favor. the guy who was supposed to collect the parcel in atlanta, at whose request this whole thing happened, changed his story to the u.s. customs. (this alibi is far more plausible than a bag handler sticking it to the lady arrested in bali). the couple got 7 years in a rush-rush trial, the old lady died in prison. now this story never made any headlines, quite unlike these white folks behaving like sky has fallen - and they think it is so prudent thing for them to do.
in india, the police would definitely have understood that the old couple possibly couldn't be guilty of such thing.
