The average person is unable to appreciate just how 'junkie' it is, or else there is no alternative available. When the average consumer goes to buy a VCR, or DVD player as they probably would now, all they see is the casing, and they all look much the same. Some will have enough smarts to rely on the makers reputation, but most will just say.. 'well this one is $50 cheaper, and it does the same things, so I'll buy this one'. And then there are the deliberate marketing ploys intended to confuse, and take advantage of known brand names- such as Palsonic (read Panasonic), Fujita (read Fujitsu), JNC (read JVC), etc., Asians are not renowned for their ethics and morality are they- pirate cds-dvd's, fake designer goods, you name it. And reminds me of when the Japs were trying to crack the US market decades ago. They named a town in Japan USA and set up manufacturing plants there. Then they stamped everything 'made in USA', and in small print so that ppl did not notice the dots missing!
You'd have to have in business, or you'd go crazy!
