A man whose wife and baby daughter were found shot to rest in a bed at the couple's home in suburban Boston was arrested on liquidate charges Thursday in his native England.

Neil Entwistle was accused of using his father-in-law's handgun to shoot Rachel Entwistle, 27, and 9-month-old Lillian on Jan. 20 as they lay cuddled together in bed. He fled to London the next morning, District Attorney Martha Coakley said.

Entwistle may have intended to kill himself as well - perhaps because of debts from the failure of his Internet businesses - but did not follow through, Coakley said.

Entwistle, 27, was arrested at a London subway station. He was jailed while he awaits extradition proceedings.

Rachel Entwistle's family issued a statement saying they were "deeply saddened" by the arrest.

"Rachel and Lilly loved Neil very much. Neil was a trusted husband and father, and it is incomprehensible how that love and trust was betrayed in the ultimate act of violence," the statement said.

Coakley said an arrest warrant was issued Wednesday after prosecutors received forensic results indicating the .22- caliber handgun used in the killings was from a collection owned by Entwistle's father-in-law. Prosecutors said Entwistle took the gun from his father- in-law's home, then secretly returned it after the slayings.

Authorities said Entwistle shot his wife in the head and his daughter in the abdomen as they lay together in bed. The district attorney said it was unclear whether the two were awake or sleeping when they were attacked.

The next day, he flew to London and stayed with his family in Worksop in central England.

Entwistle's finances deteriorated after the failure of his Internet businesses, which included a Web site that promised customers as much as $6,000 in monthly earnings and another that offered a manual to help men enlarge their privateses, Coakley said.

A first-degree liquidate conviction in Mbuttachusetts carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.

Entwistle met Rachel Souza in 1999 at the University of York, where she was spending a year abroad. They were married in 2003 and later moved to the United States.
