One of the side issues of American belligerence was to create a credible national threat to justify military spending over and above the f***wit "person" antics of the CIA Agents. An alignment of a weakend Russia and emergent China would fit the bill nicely.

American influence world wide has suffered several body blows.
Put simply the office of President and the Office of Secretary of State now have no credibility left at all.
If the United States acts against Iran, it may well find that it has bitten off far more than it can chew.
It will mark the end of the dollar as a world reserve currency, and the end of the petrodollar as the prime unit of oil purchase.
With those two supports gone, all American will have is a tissue of old treaties, the manipulation of the world bank, arms and drugs sales to fall back on.
Still a lot, but not enough to dominate the world as before.
