COIMBATORE: The story of a Canadian citizen Torrence Soundar alias Shyam, which was unfolded on Tuesday, could be the latest example to show how people can be deceived through internet chatting.

Poongodi Krishnan (30), a resident of Chokkampudur, is a B.A. graduate. And to the trap laid by her via internet, the victim who fell was a Tamil-speaking Sri Lankan native Torrence Soundar, now a citizen of Canada, who lost his cash to a tune of Rs 1.2 lakh and things worth Rs 1.5 lakh to her.

While chatting in the internet, Torrence came across the name Archana, age 20, a resident of Chokkampudur, Coimbatore. In fact, Archana was not the real name of the person, who was chatting with Torrence. It was indeed Poongodi Krishnan (30).

Befriending him under the false name of Archana, after several months of chatting via internet, Archana floated a false story about her which won the trust and sympathy of Torrence.

She told him that her father, Ragunath, was a lawyer, who was no more, and her mother resides in London.

She made him believe that her uncle's family was not prepared to finance her studies, with whom she was staying at present. She had harbutting her.

Meanwhile, Archana posted her photograph to him via internet. And Torrence was quite impressed with it. In deed, it was not hers, but actress Asin's!
