Wrong. There is enough cake but not everyone gets a slice the same size and it depends on whether the person gobbles the whole thing down right away or saves some for later.
Is that too much analogy?
As someone who earned $17,000 last year I would say I'm not poor. I have a roof over my head (rented) , food in my belly and I can always pay my bills. I obviously get a smaller slice of the cake but because I save some for later I always have enough.
A friend of mine earns $48,000 pa. She lives with her parents, pays only $50 per week board and spends the rest on what ever she likes. She obviously gets a much bigger slice but eats all hers and is always looking for more.
Amusingly at the moment show owes me $200 because she couldn't afford to pay her car rego.
Thanks to the Welfare system being poor is a state of mind for most people. Those that receive the lowest benefit, i.e. the single person, can survive but they can not necessarily afford to rent on their own without financial hardship. Is that poverty or personal choice?
