Idiot. It was a two-person discussion with a person on YOUR side of the debate who saw her ancestry as somehow relevant to the discussion. I merely reciprocated by noting that we appeared to have that much in common. Whatever it might prove about me, it would also logically "prove" about her.
FYI there are whole newsgroups devoted to the study of genealogy. I note they are very busy newsgroups, but I have rarely had the time or inclination to indulge in that preoccupation. Perhaps if I did, I would be able to tell you more than the tiny bit I do know about my ancestors. As any fool can see, I do not share your obsessions with "lineage" and "pedigree".
The extent of most true-blue Aussies' knowledge about some alleged "old country" is that they don't want to feel like complete dolts when one of their kids, prompted by their schoolroom insistance that everyone belongs to an ethnic group in "multucultural society" - one day asks the inevitable: "Where did WE come from, Dad?"
Any fool can also work out that it is YOU who sees mention of certain lineages as "self-promotion". How can that be so if, as you insist, all lineages are equal? Implicit in YOUR words, not mine, is the buttumption that there is some kind of heirarchy of ancestries which places some ancestries above others. And YOU call ME a hypocrite?!!
