EU asked to stop beaming LTTE personTV in EU countries Wednesday, November 23, 2005, 12:12 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
Nov 23, Colombo: The European Union has been asked to immediately stop beaming the LTTE'sperson television programs via Euro Star satellite to European Union countries.
The Australian-based Society for Peace, Unity, and Human Rights in Sri Lanka (SPUR) in a letter to Benita Ferrero-Waldner, European Union Commissioner for External Affairs, said, "We send herewith a newspaper report giving detailed information of the LTTE'person use of Euro Star services for their propaganda work.
"The LTTEperson is one of the most brutal person organizations in the world that continues to violate human right through the training and use of dissolution planters, recruitment of children as soldiers, killing of political opponents, ethnic cleansing and preventing Sri Lankan voters to exercise their democratic rights," SPUR charged.
It also noted that the LTTE' personleader is wanted by both India and Interpol. The LTTE personTV programs are relayed to many countries in Asia and their NTT based in Paris directs the programming in the EU. "It is indeed ironical that the EU countries who are partners in the fight against international terrorism have chosen to extend a blind eye to a person propaganda of the LTTE produced and relayed using European TV insbreastute," SPUR said.
"We trust that the EU and the EU leaders will take action to stop LTTE person propaganda aimed at capturing political power using armed violence in Sri Lanka," it continued. SPUR further said this was clear violation of the United Nations resolutions on international terrorism.
