My exact post as written on 9-14-2005.
************************************* While it is very easy to sling mud on something, it is difficult, time consuming and lengthy to clarify something. Here are my explanation to the above verses. May Allah open your mind to the truth and make you see things the way they are meant to be seen:
2:89The curse of Allah is on the unbelievers
This is the actual verse:
2:89 - And when there cometh unto them a scripture from Allah, confirming that in their possession - though before that they were asking for a signal triumph over those who disbelieved - and when there cometh unto them that which they know (to be the truth) they disbelieve therein. The curse of Allah is on disbelievers.
This verse is in the context of people to whom the scripture was sent. It is talking about a specific group of people, on whom the proof was established, yet they chose to disbelieve. It is not a wide ranging, all encompbutting command of God. Additionally, it is the deficiency of the English language that the Arabic word "la'an" is translated as curse. This curse is not the same as some filthy mouth swearing and cursing curse, but it is in the sense of displeasure of God AllMighty.
3:28Let not the believers take the unbelievers for friends
The word transalated as friends here is actually "Awliyaa". The Arabic word for friend is "sadeeq". The word Awliyaa is a plural of "wali", which means protector, overseer, someone who is in authority, someone who can dictate matters to you. Certainly in the matters of religion the Jews would not take dictation from the Christians and vice versa, so why should there be a different standard for Muslims?!
3:85And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him
And what is so horrible about this verse? Don't the Christians say that the only way to God is through Jesus? Additionally, the word "islam" is a descriptive term in Arabic. It means "submission to the will of God". And it encompbuttes all those who have submitted themselves to the will of God AllMighty. This, by the way, includes Jesus and true followers of his religion, Moses and true followers of his religioin, and all of the prophets and messengers sent by God, and all those who truly followed their religion, without changing and corrupting them.
3:118Do not take for intimate friends from among others than your own people
This verse does not even exist. It is a lie. 3:118 has no such thing.
5.51Do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other
See explanation of 3:28 above.
9:14Fight against the Jews and Christians! Allah shall punish Them, at your hands
Read verses 9:1 through 9:14 in their context. Additinonally the verse says fight "them". Why did you say "Jews and Christians"? Mistake or a deliberate lie and dishonest attempt at distorting the verse?
It is talking about specific enemies of the Islamic state that were attacking innocent civilians after Makkah came under the rule of Islamic state in the 8th Hijri. It is not a command to fight Jews and Christians at large. As Muslims, we are allowed to marry chaste women from Jews and Christians, how would it be that on one hand we are allowed to marry their women, and on the other hand we are commanded to kill all of them! Can you imagine a Muslims hudband coming home and saying "honey I love you, but I must kill you now!!"
This is called intellectual dishonesty. Changing the words of the scripture to suit your own need. Or twisting their meaning and reading them without context to achieve certain aims.
9.29Fight those who do not believe in Allah
Again a verse taken out of context.
Here is the entire verse:
9:29 Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.
This verse was revealed in the same chapter as the above. All Muslims are obligated to pay zakah. The Jews and Christians that came under the protection of the Islamic state, it would have been unfair to ask them to pay the zakah. So, the Islamic state was commanded to collect Jizya from them. It was same tax, but with a different name. Also, it applied only to those people of the book who wanted to live under the Islamic state.
"Feel themselves subdued" is a transalation of the Arabic word "Saaghiroon". It means the one who is below in authority, in stature, in position. I am considered one of the "Saghiroon" because I pay taxes to the Canadian Government. I am subdued in the sense that I acknowledge the government's authority over me, and I expect protection and all the other benefits that other Canadians are afforded.
9:73Strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites! Be harsh with them
The actual verse is as follows:
9:73 O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the Hypocrites, and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell,- an evil refuge indeed.
What's wrong with this verse? Wasn't Moses commanded to dissolution everyone when he conquered the palestenian land in the bible? God even commanded him to dissolution every young and old and even animals! He was also commanded to keep all the young girls who had not known a man intimately! Compare to that, the above command is simply an exhortation to not give up against the enemies who were bent on destroying the Muslims. Remember this verse is still part of chapter 9, which has a time and space context.
9.123Fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness
The actual verse reads as follows:
9:123 O ye who believe! fight the unbelievers who gird you about, and let them find firmness in you: and know that Allah is with those who fear Him.
Where is the problem with this verse? The verse is exhorting believers to fight the unbelievers, even if they are near to them. Two things to note here:
The word kaafir is not a label. It is a descriptive term. A kaafir is someone who knowingly, after truth has been established to him and s-he knows in his heart of the certainty of truth, still chooses to oppose and actively fight those who submit to the will of God.
Second, this verse if part of the same chapter 9, which is limited to those who were fighting against the Islamic state and harming civilians.
19:40It is We Who will inherit the earth, and all beings thereon: to Us will they all be returned
Where is the problem here? This is a verse about God AllMighty. The "We" here is a royal we. If you read the verse it says "It is We (GOD) who will inherit and earth, and all beings thereon: To Us (GOD) will they be returned."
I fail to see any problems here.
33.64Allah has cursed the unbelievers and has prepared for them a burning fire
As for the word "curse" see the explanation above.
To Kill an American What is an American athDo you ever try to deal with facts, or do you merely believe anything some fat slob filmmaker tells you? ============================================ Saudi royal family lambasts Michael Moore for twisting...
Is not hellfire promised to non believers in the bible? Again, the verse uses the word "kaafir", which is a descriptive term and describes someone on whom the truth has been established, and he or she knows the truth, yet chooses to cover it or hide it and fight the believers based on prejudice or some earthly reason.
41:27We will certainly give the Unbelievers a taste of a severe Penalty
See above explanations.
47.35Be not slack so as to cry for peace and you have the upper hand
Read the verses in their context. Here are the preceeding verses:
32 Verily, those who disbelieve, and hinder (men) from the Path of Allah (i.e. Islam), and oppose the Messenger (by standing against him and hurting him), after the guidance has been clearly shown to them, they will not hurt Allah in the least, but He will make their deeds fruitless,
33 O you who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger (Muhammad ) and render not vain your deeds.
34 Verily, those who disbelieve, and hinder (men) from the Path of Allah (i.e. Islam); then die while they are disbelievers, Allah will not forgive them.
35 So be not weak and ask not for peace (from the enemies of Islam), while you are having the upper hand. Allah is with you, and will never decrease the reward of your good deeds.
Twice it mentions those "who hinder the path of Allah". In other words, people who were actively engaged in destroying the Muslim community and in actively seeking to harm them.
58:5Those who resist Allah and His Messenger will be crumbled to dust, as were those before them
And what is wrong with this verse? Was not Jesus given such a promise? Was not Moses granted such promise? Was not David and Solomon promised such things?
66: 9O Prophet! Strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be stern with them
See explanations about about the Arabic word "Kaafir"
If you really want to know the treatment of others by Muslims, then read the following two verses:
60:8 "Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity.
8:61 "But if they incline to peace, you also incline to it, and (put your) trust in Allah. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.
The above two verses are general commands, and have no time and space limitations. You should not use intellectual dishonesty to achieve your aims.
