We can make our legal system more convoluted by design, thus increasing the demand for lawyers. As Lester Thurow once said, approximately: "No other country has a legal system like ours. No other country is that stupid." As I said in my other posting to this discussion thread, maybe I should pull some new laws of Physics out of my butt, so my Engineer-Scientist buddies and I can have more work!

I would add Economics to this list. Economics is the least understood Science of them all. And that is why it seems so laughable now.

Not quite; no non-litigant can put their name on a court paper without being duly licensed in the relevant jurisdiction...

Don't confuse Economists with Finance MBAs.

For every bridge that falls, plane that crashes, etc., that an Engineer can be blamed for, there is an economic failure, macro or micro, that can be blamed on an Economist.

Engineers create wealth in the Adam Smith sense of the word. By designing, building, and implementing productivity tools of various sorts. Lawyers just create complex social systems, so that their buddies, other lawyers, can get paid to help ordinary people find their way through them.

Why be cannon fodder for the vested interests (soldier), when you can be an expensive pimp for them (lawyer)?
