Legal outcomes are consistently discriminatory, depending on income and the ability to buy protection from the law by hiding illegal activity:
A 15 year old aboriginal boy is jailed after taking a $2 ice cream. A woman is detained for the crime of suffering a mental illness, another is deported, another citizen is held indefinitely without trial.
And then there are the rich, the tax bludgers involved in a $300,000,000 fraud on Australian taxpayers, and this time there is no trial because NO ONE HAS EVEN BEEN CHARGED! B^p
Just as the GST was seen as a way of taxing the Black economy, wealth levies and Tobin taxes would be one way the rich could be made to pay for their inequitable status as free from criminal convictions for fraud and theft.
