Exactly, who but racists need to know?
And yet he is desperate to know, because he has already asked this, and been given my answer! B^)
Apparently he thinks that the important measure of a man is your bloodline; when your folks arrived and if they were of the correct ethnic group. pffft
It's not an interest in our history, because when the topic was Eureka, he was completely disinterested..
But then, many early settlers were imbued with the notions of English Aristocracy, pretentious prats who thought their Pedigree counts more than their personality, their Bloodline more than their behaviour.
I don't think he has grasped the essential concept of what a 'CULTURE' is, and how it differs from an ETHNIC group.
A culture may be subscribed to by many ethnicities as we can see in America.
And an ethnic group has within it many cultures (Catholics-Protestants-surfies-power elites-battlers)
Some early settlers were true-blues, some were whip cracking sadists and pompous Aristocrats who believed in Bloodline (often it was all they had to make them feel important! ;-). pffft!
Fasnag True Blue 928You gave an answer, but you didn't answer the question. And it is a very direct and simple question. 1. When did your ancestors arrive in Australia and where...
Someone like Captain Red Saunders was true-blue but his ancestors don't have an arrival date! B^D
So either true-blue culture is genetic, and his family had it before European Settlement, or it's behaviours and beliefs which people CHOOSE, in which case pedigree is not the determining factor. B^)
Just to forestall the idiots, this does not negate cultural transmission, which occurs partly via the family, but also by the school, community, media, church, etc etc which is just as well because many families have forgotten their traditional culture, as was made apparent when Nev Duguid was asked what true blues stood for and couldn't answer!
