Family court is shocking in that, for the "best interests of the child", they allow him to be used as a bargaining tool and for a whole circus of "experts" to be trotted out (at a huge cost to the child's future) to fight over him.

The basis of the welfare state was to reward irresponsible parenting. The more children born into poverty, the larger the checks got. The public has, to their credit in the states, seen through this.
