Rev Head

How could you say such a thing? 8^o

Starry night is a UNIQUE, IRREPLACABLE treasure!

Flag 828
Rev Head ... Starry Night is a unique object, flags are mbutt produced, not rare. pee poor analogy. BTW, are you proposing we alter the property laws so people cannot...

Starry night is not a flag. So I'm not sure why you keep introducing such a bizzare and inappropriate analogy. Flags are Mbutt PRODUCED.

Burn one fresh from the Chinese flag factory , another one is just as good. Put a tax on it and you make money from the Flag Burners! B^D

Actually there already is one.. the GST.

The flags in question are commodities.. stuck on T-Shirts, despoiled daily by politicians and racist thugs wrapping themselves in them.

Flags with history.. flags which have been flown over battlefields, or on ships.. are treasured and well looked after.

Flag 829
Rev Head But they would usually allow me to knock two down, to build my house, yes? Same if I...

But currently mbutt produced flags are sold and given away.

Most people respect them. Some people, as part of the freedoms symbolized by that flag, choose to use it as a protest.

In Australia we have always allowed that as one of the FREEDOMS the flag symbolises.

Would you 'protect' the flag by destroying one more freedom which it once represented? I can't see the logic.

Are you still on Starry night?

Symbolic Value Starry Night was Flag 826
Rev Head So, apart from the hints i have given you, has anyone else helped you out? ;-) Pffft.. too late to regain your credibility! B...

What is the 'symbolic value' of Starry Night?

It has phenomenal artistic and human value, priceless as part of humaities art treasures.. and it's a beautiful piece..

..have tou seen it? The original I mean?

I stood in front of it for such a long time..

you can see so much more than from the prints...

For a start the prints are flat.. two dimensional..

but staring at the original you can see how Van Gogh laid down furrows of paint horizontally to make the waves, and then taking a brush dipped in yellow, drew it vertically down the canvas, ...just clipping the crests of the waves, as the town lights did ..

But it such clever simplicity which makes the simple scene such a stunning visual feast...

But what 'symbolism' do you see in that canvas?

Why? you haven't established a case for making it illegal yet,

lets not get into even MORE complexity in Law, that is what makes it expensive to administer, and that puts LAW and Justice beyond the reach of Battlers.

There usually isn't. People wear flags, they drape them over furniture, they burn them, somewhere someone has one as a bedspread and is rooting on it, patriots burn their old one, and get a new one for the flagpole at the front of their house, and even you would rip one up if it made sense to you to do so.

So, If someone is so peeed off at the government that he wants to buy a flag, pay GST on it, and then burn it in protest, why isn't that freedom, one of the freedoms that flag is supposed to represent, and we are supposed to cherish, at least as important as you getting a 4WD out of the sand?

No,No.. NOTHING to do with CURRENCY!

.. you don't seem to understand the question:

To have B-A-R-T-E-R you must have the concept of PROPERTY RIGHTS - Ug can't just TAKE Gog's spearheads, because they BELONG to Gog.. he has to GIVE him something in return.. say SKINS, which are Ug's property.

Note.. Ug can't give Gog skins which belong to Glub, because that would violate Glub's property rights.

Property rights existed WAY before currency!

So, as Property Rights exist in almost all early societies, (trade occurred for example right up the east coast and into the islands to the north), your claim recognises them as civilizations.

Currency is a medium to store value for the purposes of exchange and generally superseeded Barter.. although since Goods and Services Taxes, barter has made a HUGE comeback among communities with tradeable skills.

If you were there you would have known all this. ;-)

WHAT?

Something that is not part of Og's philiosophy if he 'posesses' Glub's property ! 8^o

So much for the concept of a CIVILIZED society! B^p

Not quite true, we inherited ours, as a colony.. and that state continued for quite some time.

In fact even when we established state governments and Federation.. many people still did not have access to the ballot box, but were subject to laws! 8^o

I buttume you don't approve of such lack of democratic rights?

If such a disenfranchised person had burnt a flag, would that be a reasonable protest, given that for them it's 'symbols' were a cruel joke?

But I'm curious, Why did you say the ballot box should NOT regulate property theft?

Not quite right actually... North Korea has a consbreastution, and Courts and an buttembly and enforcement.. but not democracy.

And parliaments used to be called and dismissed at the whim of Kings, usually when they wanted taxes..

We had all those things, but still as late as the 60's we did not have universal franchise.. many people could not vote. Just as in Nth Korea, Iraq, Seth Affrika, ..it was not a real democracy.

That was partly my point.

Some people don't seem to understand how our system works.

Rev Head A rhetorical one, suggesting Starry Night is just a few splashes of paint on a piece of canvas.. what's that about??? BTW "What, ask a question" should have a question mark...

"There is a fundamental distinction between multicultural and Multiculturalism, which racists constantly and deliberately confuse.

A society is multicultural if it has more than one culture being practised within that society.

'Multicultural - A society which embraces a number of minority cultures' - Macquarie Dictionary

Multiculturalism is two things, the -ISM indicates that it is a set of beliefs or ideas about multiculture, ie a recognition of multicultural REALITY, an acceptance of it, a celebration of it. But it is ALSO a set of government policies to formalize that recognition, acceptance and celebration! Thus the Howard government has a Department which documents the positive economic social and foreign policy benefits from having a successful, open, democratic multicultural society."

Australia have come from different cultures, and live different lives that could be categorised into groups if you chose to do so.

a governmental level"
