Rev Head

A rhetorical one, suggesting Starry Night is just a few splashes of paint on a piece of canvas.. what's that about???

BTW "What, ask a question" should have a question mark. ;-)

If you are going to labour the point, you really should be able to do it yourself;

Did Six Million Six Million
Really DieDid Six Million ? by Richard E. Harwood Introduction Of course, atrocity propaganda is nothing new. It has accompanied every...

But why did you ask a rthetorical question in which you implied a rare, unique and beautiful work of art was just paint splashes?

I think your use of the Rhetorical has gone beyond what is reasonable.

Come back to us when you have decided what it is you want to say and are able to articulate it.

The symbolic values remain, they are not destroyed by burning one, of many, physical copies.

But starry night is a unique, irreplacable work..

Burn it.. and it is gone forever! 8^o

Of course not, they symbolise different things, I can't quite see why you thought otherwise?

That's nice, however..

Gum trees are a clbuttic motif in Australian paintings.

They are celebrated in song, for example;

"Give me a home among the Gum trees.."

And in stories; "The Gum Nuts"

The leaves are played as our simplest bush instrument.

The memories of dead explorers blazed on the trunk of a Gum Tree.

And they explode like fury in the dreaded Bushfire.. The Nightmare of everyone who lives in the Bush.

For some of us, at least, the Gum tree is rich with symbolism. It's part of our culture, something that outsiders may not be familiar with.

Just like special gum trees are looked after.. such as those marking sacred sites.

But we still chop down the ones where we want to build a house, because there are so many of them.. like mbutt produced flags, and the symbols remain even though one of two physical items are destroyed.

You really shouldn't get too exercised about that, flags wear out and get chucked in the bin... it's not like a unique Art work, where we go to extraordinary lengths to protect every single one! Those, as i said, which have flown over important events, are treasured, like the Eureka flag.. but the last time I mentioned Eureka you were uninterested, so we won't go there.

What, in your view, do flags represent?

But her initiative is to preserve flags, NOT the freedoms they represent.

This was already discussed earlier in the thread.

The freedoms symbolized by the flag are more important than the physical cloth!

Why would you do that?

And how is it related to flag burning?

How is the better good served by removing personal freedom?

Not that actual flag! Actual flags wear out, are tossed in the bin and replaced with new ones. It is what the flag Symbolizes that people have died for.

And that includes the freedoms you and Brionwyn Bishop seek to take away, far more important than the pohysical .

You already agreed to using the flag as a bandage, or even driving over it to get traction when your 4WD was bogged. If someone uses it for a protest against some government action, say, declaring Nazism to be our new National Religion, wouldn't the dramatization of National Betrayal be as important as getting your 4WD out of the sand?

I think you said they would understand if you drove over it in a good cause.

I'm buttuming the same logic applies..

People just disagree over what a 'good cause' is.

You have already accepted the principle, you just think your reasons for misusing the flag are good, and don't like other people having the same freedom for THEIR reasons.

It's a common form of hypocrisy.

Weren't where? at your house where you are typing? In Australia?

Especially Australian art, (I'm surprised you didn't choose one of our paintings as your example, if you are familiar with our culture)

But you are the one who said it has a 'whole lot of symbolic value' not a view I share, and so I asked you what you mean.

Now you can't explain and are evading the issue! 8^o

Is it because you were making it up, but it's so central to your argument that you can't admit that?

B^D

I asked you to tell us what symbolic value it had, and you couldn't! B^p

As you claimed it had 'whole lot of symbolic value', yet can't give us even one example, that seems to be your your answer! B^p

BTW you seem to have forgotten how to make a question mark again.. I wouldn't mention it, but you do tend to bung on about such things.

Rev Head ... Starry Night is a unique object, flags are mbutt produced, not rare. pee poor analogy. BTW, are you proposing we alter the property laws so...

So significant you can't find any examples of it when asked! B^p

Oh dear. A sever case of inability to back your claims.

Not very true-blue of you old boy.. especially when you try and pbutt your mess to others to clean up for you;

You couldn't, and it's not my job to bridge the gap between what you say and reality.

BTW true blues call answering 'from below'

Talking Out yer Arse, Mate!

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!

true blues love a joke! ;-)

So I'm sure they will warm to you!

......

.....

That 'significant', huh? B^p

Have you actually seen the painting at all?

Or have you gone catatonic with shame?

Not sure what you mean by 'sophisticated'?

Indigenous traders pbutted goods from tribe to tribe up the east coast, up north, where they were bartered, and goods were pbutted back in return.

The Guntdijmara did not have to walk from their permanent stone dwellings all the way up north, their trade relied on a chain of trust.

That seems quite sophisticated to me, and as it doesn't involve finite resources of fossil fuel at $60, 70 , 100 dollars a barrel, it is sustainable.

Symbolic Value Starry Night 830
Rev Head I thought you would know and be able to explain what you meant when you made the claim.. not go...

If I pbutted a parcel to the next suburb by hand, would it eventually get safely to Brisbane?

That happened where you said Starry Night had 'a whole lot of significant symbolism', and I said 'such as?'

and you ran away squealing... "They Know I'm A fraud" ..never to be seen again. ;-)

It seems you know as much about European art as you do about true blue culture.

And show the same disinterest in discussing either.

Not much point having a discussion with someone who can't back their words, or explain what you mean.

Rev Head But they would usually allow me to knock two down, to build my house, yes? Same if I destroy...

"There is a fundamental distinction between multicultural and Multiculturalism, which racists constantly and deliberately confuse.

A society is multicultural if it has more than one culture being practised within that society.

'Multicultural - A society which embraces a number of minority cultures' - Macquarie Dictionary

Multiculturalism is two things, the -ISM indicates that it is a set of beliefs or ideas about multiculture, ie a recognition of multicultural REALITY, an acceptance of it, a celebration of it. But it is ALSO a set of government policies to formalize that recognition, acceptance and celebration! Thus the Howard government has a Department which documents the positive economic social and foreign policy benefits from having a successful, open, democratic multicultural society."
