Interesting analogy, you do however make a good point which is that you have very different groups aligned against one another where suspicion and fear reign and each move on either side only contributes to more friction and confrontation. unlike you I don't believe that trying to calm or diffuse the situation will work, in fact it will only give the other side a perception of weakness and an opportunity to strengthen their position. You see I believe the time for calm negotiation and a peaceful outcome are well past. It now a matter of defeating and demoralising the other side with overwhelming force that is the only way out of this clash of civilisations and the only thingtheyunderstand and respect.
