Western society has sweet f*** all to do with it really, it's a bunch of uneducated stupid clowns that blindly follow the lunatic ravings of a few morons that merely use religion as a cattle prod to get their sheep to do what they want them to do. That's why it is less of a problem in the West and slowly but surely being removed from most of the rest of the world (bar the middle East) as education, communication and comfortable lifestyles are spreading across the face of the Earth. Simple really.
And the focus should be on the lunatic groups, not religions they blame their lunacy on, otherwise you're just being the exact sort of mindless drone they're praying for, you're reacting exactly as they want you to react, and give them good reason to plant more plants, because you are doing exactly what they need you to do, you're feeding them more recruits.
