Indeed. I knew of a person who used injection to self medicate due to depression. He was of the belief that it was a far better alternative to the drugs prescribed to him - and Id tend to agree.
But I refuse to use his use of injection as evidence that every junkie out there is self-medicating. A lot of them just want to get off their face, and not because they need to do so other than the addiction itself.
For a majority of people, addiction is the result of plain and simple abuse of a substance, and not to remedy an underlying problem, as Gregory would have us believe.
Are you saying that every single person who takes a drink of alcohol is trying to ease some form of pain ?

Taking any substance purely because you want it, is not self-medication.
