I do not consider sitting in the pub or having a few beers after work, self medicating. That is what Gregory is trying to claim.
I still refute that it is self-medicating. There is a difference between seeking to remedy a problem, and seeking to hide from it.
As I've also said to Gregory, alcohol can be beneficial in certain circumstances. However it is not very good at all in relieving stress, and so his buttertion that it is self-medicating because people use it to relieve stress, is not valid.
It seem that it did nothing to help your situation, did it.
A few whites at lunch, and a martini here or there are a far cry from 2 goon casks a night, or as much v.o. port that you can stomach before pbutting out, waking the next day and continuing it all over again.
Escaping the problems of our lives by alcohol is not self-medicating.
Thinking that it is, might make you feel better about being an alcoholic, but it certainly does not alter the fact that you were-are addicted to a contagion that when abused does nothing to medicate you nor remedy the problems in your life. To say it is self medication is almost a form of denial.
