Money moved within a counrty (including social security payments) create a healthy cash flow, and everyone in business knows that cash flow is one of the fundamental requirements key for success.
I won't bore you now with the calcs, but money paid through, for example, the paye system goes back to the government as tax in an incredibly quick time (especially now with gst), to be recycled over and over.
Unfortunately, every cent that goes o-s, unless an equivalent sale is made o-s by an Oz manufacturer, is lost forever.

Can't really understand why the government seems to want all manufacturing to leave our shores. If it is not made here, and the population still want - it is simply a ticket to inevitably send our money overseas, making another country prosperous.
And once manufacturing is lost - it is usually lost forever (including infrastructure, investment, technical skills and the people to run it).
And face it - the way we are selling our natural resources to China, pretty soon we will all be living in a bloody great hole in the ground.
