Aielyn I was referring to my terms physical and intellectual as not being traits, in the sense that a trait is something that is not intrinsic but extrinsic, in the...

Never said that they were traits. I said that perhaps they meant "spiritually equal", or "philosophically equal", or "innately equal". The second question was an extension of the first, not a completely separate question. I was asking why it has to be traits like physical strength or mental capacity.

Ahhh... The nature vs nurture debate. Do you actually want to get into it, or was it accidental that you brought it up?

You just hit a key word - worth. When you are first conceived, is your worth more or less than that of any other conceived embryo?

Look again at the wording - "created equal". Anything after creation is our own doing.

To that question, I would answer YES, but that is a special case.

Then again, I would say that all people are of equal worth, in an innate sense - sure, a surgeon is worth more to SOCIETY than a dope-smoking dole-bludger (or a politician), but is that the only measure of worth?

Obviously - never claimed that it didn't. Look again - "created equal", not just "equal".

You see, I would say the exact reverse (that it is self-evident that all men are created equal, and that they are not is a philosophical argument).

You notice something about "self-evident truth"? The "self" that it is referring to is the person calling it a self-evident truth. The "self" refers to the one claiming it, not to the 'truth' itself.
