How many traits does a person have at the moment of conception? I would say that only genetic potential exists at the moment of conception, and since genetic potential does not affect innate worth, all people are equal at the moment of conception.

Michael Wallace } } }Actually protect the religion you're launching your bigoted attacks on. }Defended Christianity against Hindu and Muslim bigots that are exactly }as f***ed up as you many times in the past. You just...

That if you look at how much a human being is worth at the moment of conception, I would say that they are equal.

Genetic makeup decides potential, but not actual ability. Sure, a person with the wrong genes will never be an athletic champion. However, just because a person has the right genes, doesn't mean they will be an athletic champion, either. It only means that they have the POTENTIAL.

Nature decides the potential, Nurture decides the use of that potential.

I was making a joke, for one thing.

Nope, f*** all actually dies out with human evolution. Essentially because human society is FAR more complex than that mindlessly superficial stuff spewed about fertility. Look at ethiopia and somalai. Those...

For another, I would say that Kerry Packer and the dole-bludger you mentioned, at their moments of conception, were of equal worth.

Worth is like love - they are easy to recognise, but difficult to put in words. I will do my best to give you an idea of how I measure worth.

-A person's worth increases with their contributions to society - so a dole bludger is not of as great a worth as a surgeon, or a janitor, in this respect. Note that, at birth, no child has contributed to society. Also note that being rich does not increase a person's worth. (someone who specifically damages society, like a criminal, has less worth than normal) -A person's worth increases with their contributions to the world - so a dole bludger is of less worth than a farmer, or a park ranger, in this respect. Again, at birth, no child has contributed to the world. -A person's worth increases with their ability to contribute to society or the world, but not as much as actual contribution - so someone who is highly educated, for example, is of greater worth than an uneducated person, in this respect. Note that, at birth, no child has the ability to contribute to society or the world - they must work to gain that ability.

Outside of these conditions, all people, in my opinion, are equal in worth, with some other, more complex exceptions.

Because there is a difference between BEING equal, and being CREATED equal.

Worth is not dependent on potential, in my opinion, and so all people are created equal.

Yes I have, just as you have substantiated your view. I can accept your not accepting my reasoning, but you should at least respect it - I respect your reasoning.

When it comes to such philosophical concepts as worth and equality, there is no right or wrong, just opinions.

By that definition, you are now admitting that the position that all men are NOT created equal is not self-evident, since it seems that you need to prove it.
