Tokyo Rose
First - it's spelled "metaphor" (no "e" at the end). Second, the term "stick your head in the sand" is a cliche (or, more accurately, an idiom), as is "pay the price on your own". Besides, even if they were metaphors, they would be mixed metaphors, not confused metaphors.
And last - I suggest you take your own advice (the advice in the brackets).
You have yet to demonstrate that you know the context in which it arose. THAT is what I was saying. I honestly don't care who said it, or what context it was said in, or any of that - YOU are the one making a big deal out of that. I was demonstrating that, whatever the origin of "power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely", it is accurate in the world of politics. You have yet to provide a counterexample for it.
In other words - don't bleat at me about issues that only you care about, and instead focus on the point that "Who Flung Dung" made - which is that power corrupts, and that is why ID cards are a worry.
As usual, instead of focusing on the issues at hand and their importance, people like you focus on etymologies of quotes and trying to set up straw men. Grow up, and participate in rational debate rather than flinging random insults over insignificant issues.
I also note that you failed to respond to my other, more pertinent points - such as the fact that Joh Bjelke Peterson was corrupt because of power given him by the electoral system, or that power has been shown to corrupt in australian politics, and democracy is the least corruptible, but not incorruptible system of government. Funny how, instead of focusing on REAL issues, you ignore the real issues and focus on semantics and etymologies.
