Irshad Manji is no scholar. No one in the Islamic or even in any other community takes her seriously. I did not vilify her, simply stated that she has no credibility in the circles of knowledge.
Religion does not regular the marrige age. Whatever is customary in the society is acceptable. I obey the law of the land. Marrying young girls is not something unique to Islam. The Talmud allows marrying a girl as young as 3 years old..!
If expediency is your aim, I don't doubt that wal mart's bible will do. Better yet, you can pick up any garbage book written in English and understand it for expediency's sake. But if finding the truth is your concern and being thorough and getting to the truth of the matter is your concern, then yes, you may have to spend some time and effort.
Demonstrated behavior eh? No religion in the history of this planet is resopnsible for more rest, more suffering, more human misery than the so called Christianity. The persecution of unitarians, the inquisition, the wars between churches, the nuking of Japan, two world wars, the crusades, the long list of US and other western nations' aggression against their colonies are all evidence of the misery that the bible followers brought on this world. It is only through rejection of the book, that the west came out of darkness (supposedly).
Free speech has its limits, as it is proven by King George's patriot act and his authorization of taping his own countrymen and women secretly. I do not agree with Van Gough's liquidate, nor do I agree with what Khomeni did about Rushdie. On the other hand, in the western society, it is perfectly fine to reject God, but try denying the holocaust and see what happens to you! Free speech has its limits.
