platform.

Fact: Computer buttociates is a Hindustani company (for years run by Sanjay Kumar). The contest involved porting from real databases to CA's Hindustani system. Contestants probably had to read specs on CA's system documented by Hindustani.

that

This has not proveN (note the improper use of the English language by the Hindustani) nothing. While the contest sounds more applicable to the real world than most ACM style contests, there's still a lack of correlation between real projects and contests. In the real world, there are countless issues that impede progress. The contest has the luxury of being able to focus 100% of one's time and energy on the computing. In the real world there are meetings, office politics, bizarre decisions by upper management, impossible deadlines, and too many other issues to mention. In real life, these young Hindustani won't be productive once they have their pre-arranged marriage and spend most of the workday on the phone fielding calls from the wife about their kids.

In addition to failing English, Azad fails much worse in something vital to computer jobs: logic. The IT prize does NOTHING to prove Hindustani are the best in IT.

McGrattan has the same logic failures as Azad. She's a moron. Typical of a vice president to be a moron.

database

Are they claiming the contest program can be used in real life? It may have worked with some test data, but there are probably bugs. Some real world data probably won't get translated correctly: too many characters, special characters, etc.

At least they got paid a million bucks for their efforts. In American colleges, students pay to be exploited, doing the real work on research for which the university and the professors get credit and grant money.
