International Stuff 1777

He wrote me an email today -- said he was busy so has not been on usenet in some time.

Nope, not until January 30.

Right now I am working on organizational reform vis a vis "policy". Sorry to be so vague but that's just what it is.

I'm not taking time out, my situation is preventing me from doing anything on usenet.

The few tet messages were all that snuck through.

I thought it was some sor tof virus but as it turns out, not only did it start that way but they are tearing up our building and neighborhood for remont.

Leaks, wiring, you name it.

There was a period where we lost wiring to our cable tv.

This happened just as there was a very important Redskin game. Many angry residents.

There's a big sign on the computer room that says that there will be a wiring contractor in to fix the wiring in the computer room on January 3rd which probably got nuked with all the repairs.

January 3 has come and gone and the computers are still not working.

I am now posting from Philadelphia. I have come home to celebrate Christmas with my family.

Don't know if you celebrated with your family but I hope you had a nice time.

In the meantime my father made me a Christmas present. He bought me a 120 dollar used laptop that I will try and use when I get back.

Probably not.

I asked my father why this city name sounded so familiar to me. He said, o only because I lived there for two years after WWII.

Of course, I said.

He said that he worked as a janitor at one of the hotels and of course, skated quite a bit. Not at that rink, though, because the one that collapsed was built in 1972.

He reminded me of a story he had told me many years ago. He had an invitation from the German Ice Follies show to join their troupe as a comic skater. He said he had almost convinced himself to join them as a performer, but all the travel didn't appeal to him. He was far away from home at that time and hadn't even seen his mother in some four or five years, and was hoping to go home.

None of that happened of course, but today he is not very sorry that he didn't join.
