marika I buttume this term applies for either trotting or galloping.
I was rather poor in formal dressage, tough. But, usually, 1 hour "paid" riding consists of such dressage in a group. They mostly asked me to be at its "t=EAte" (head). And, if the horse is sort of a lame one, it needs to get "pushed" (or "impelled") a lot; - a real sweaty job...
I better liked jumping; - regular training and participating in championships. Nowadays, I'm used to ride out occasionally in the country side (in the Rhine fields) which is pretty romantic, yet not that much scenic and picturesque as it was in the area around LINDAU (Bodensee) in my youth (with lake and mountain views).
This expresses merely the contrary to "Trooping the Colours", the Queen's annual ritual in London.
Very unfortunate... The millstones of life are shaping us...
Maybe, you'll find peace in this area (in a philosophical and psychological sense). You've got internet-usenet and TV there, too. No more need for the hectic and dangerous DC! And, moreover, you may enjoy the great and romantic Blue Ridge Mountains in good old Virginia. It's charming and cosy... Why? (Didn't get this joke, as yet.)
It'll, perhaps, be history for you in a few weeks...
CU, Frank
