Is James Gomez The Liar OR PAP Government The Liar? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- James Gomez had categorically denied scheming any ill intentions towards the Election Department to do harm but had blamed the incident on stress and too much distractions. What would amuse anybody most would be that Wong Kan Seng's declaration that there were not much crowd around James Gomez to distract him. However what Wong Kan Seng failed to realise is that distractions could be both physical and mental! James Gomez could have been thinking too much about a lot of things and mentally that could have possibly created many distractions. It is unfortunate that not much had been thought about completely before Wong Kan Seng seem to have premised upon the conclusions.

Lee Kuan Yew called James Gomez a Liar and challenged that if James Gomez do not sue Lee Kuan Yew then there may be something wrong about James Gomez's actions! But had anyone stopped to think whether the hesitation to sue is due to a lack of funds and resources or worst the lack of confidence in the Judicial System!

Those who might challenge to uphold the integrity of the Judicial System only need to be asked of the few following questions to clarify the lack of confidence that anyone might have on the Judicial System: a. Had the government of Singapore, inclusive of executive legislative and judicial branches, ever successfully detained arrested captured restrained charged prosecuted convicted locked administered state violence and INJUSTICE against any innocent person? b. Had the courts ever refused to undo any INJUSTICE done by the courts citing statutory limitations or worst put the blame on the Victim of the Injustice?

I am afraid that anyone would get a minimum yes to at least one of the questions asked above!

Now considering the Liar status of the PAP! I will not accuse but would rather attempt to put before all just minded persons who are morally inclined to come to a conclusion if the PAP stands for High Honourable Moralities and Justice!

Lee Hsien Loong Visited Taiwan in July 2004 --------------------------------------------------------- Please note that during this period Lee Hsien Loong was the Deputy Prime Minister, Finance Minister and Chairman of Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Lee Hsien Loong had first declared that his visit to Taiwan was private and unofficial to meet friends and he declined China's request to cancel the trip. Later Lee Hsien Loong reasoned that calling off the visit will undermine Singapore's right to make independent decisions and damage Singapore's international standing! As official Chinese anger became clear, Singapore later defended the trip with a four-page statement, saying Lee, as prime minister, needed to understand "a potential flash point" in Asia. In 2004 Rally Speech Lee Hsien Loong said : ". When interests diverge... they have to put theirs first, and so must we ."

China's Foreign Ministry said that Lee's defence of his visit is contradictory as he first maintained that his visit was private and unofficial, but later admitted that it was for Singapore's interest. China said that whatever pretext the Singaporean leader uses for his visit to Taiwan, the visit will damage China's core interest and the political foundation for China-Singapore relations. It also said that everyone knows that Lee Hsien Loong has been in the upper echelons of the Singapore Government for many years and his status cannot be changed by the declaration of his visit as 'unofficial and private'. It went on that the Taiwanese authorities accorded him a so-called head-of-state reception and so Singapore's explanation is not tenable. Finally China asked why should Singapore's rights and international standing come at the expense of China's sovereignty and core interests and declared Singapore's explanation and actions as both unreasonable and illogical. CCTV4 program aired criticisms by Professor Tao Wenzhao of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The professor is reported to have said : '.The visit has hurt the political foundations for Sino-Singapore ties . No country in the world which has diplomatic ties with China, except Singapore, would send a deputy prime minister or a finance minister to visit Taiwan .The visit is absolutely unacceptable".

The above two paragraphs had their information extracted from ANNEX A (below at the end of document).

Now the questions! 1. If Lee Hsien Loong's Visit was private and unofficial then why was he given a meeting with Taiwan's president with a 'head of state reception'? 2. If the trip was private and unofficial why Singapore officially informed the China government of his trip? 3. If the trip was private and unofficial why did China objected and later declared that the Lee Hsien Loong was using a pretext for the visit and thus the visit will harm relations? 4. If the visit was private and unofficial then why did Lee Hsien Loong later admitted that the trip was for the interest of Singapore. 5. If the visit was private and unofficial then why did the Singapore later issued a four page explanation stating that Lee Hsien Loong was about to become prime minister and thus needed a first hand understanding of the Taiwan China cross straits issues. 6. If the visit was private and unofficial then why would calling off the visit would affect Singapore's sovereignty and international standing! 7. If the visit was private and unofficial then why at 2004 Rally Speech Lee Hsien Loong said that when interest diverge they(foreigners) would have to put their interest first and we(Singaporeans) had to put ours first? How did a private and unofficial visit become part of Singapore's official interest?

Based on Lee Hsien Loong's and the Singapore Government's responses it is clear that though the initial 'private and unofficial' reason was used to describe Lee Hsien Loong's visit the later admission that it goes towards Singapore interest and that cancelling such visit would affect Singapore's sovereignty to make independent decisions and affect Singapore's standing had amply demonstrated that the trip was not unofficial or private.

Besides China had declared that Lee Hsien Loong's had contradicted his earlier statement about the visit being private and unofficial when later Lee Hsien Loong said that it was in the interest of Singapore. China also declared that it is unacceptable under any pretext for Lee Hsien Loong to visit Taiwan.

By using the words 'contradiction' and 'pretext' China had directly called Lee Hsien Loong a liar in open international media!

Adding to that professor Tao Wenzhao of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences had also said in CCTV4 program that :

". No country in the world which has diplomatic ties with China, except Singapore, would send a deputy prime minister or a finance minister to visit Taiwan .The visit is absolutely unacceptable".

By the above statement Professor Tao Wenzhao had said that the entire government of Singapore, including Goh Chok Tong and Lee Kuan Yew, had sent Lee Hsien Loong to Taiwan!

Since the government of Singapore had all long maintained that Lee Hsien Loong's trip was private and unofficial, professor Tao Wenzhao's statement had defamed the government of Singapore, including Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chok Tong, as liars.

So now we have a situation here. China directly called Lee Hsien Loong a Liar. Professor Tao Wenzhao called Singapore Government, including Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chok Tong, as Liar.

Since according to Lee Kuan Yew, if someone is called a liar and that person did not seek to sue and correct the defamation then the public will only see the defamatory statements as true statements!

Have anyone ever heard of Lee Hsien Loong, Lee Kuan Yew, Goh Chok Tong and the Government of Singapore suing the China government and professor Tao Wenzhao! Obviously no one!

So by Lee Kuan Yew's logic are Lee Hsien Loong, Lee Kuan Yew, Goh Chok Tong and the Government of Singapore liars? If they do not seek to remedy the situation by suing the China government and professor Tao Wenzhao in a China court, or a Singapore court or an international court then by Lee Kuan Yew's logic is the government of Singapore admitting that the public will see the government of Singapore consisting of dishonourable Liars?

So is James Gomez the Liar? Or The PAP Government of Singapore the Liar Or Are they both Liars? Or Have they both made honest mistakes?

Report By Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhang Qiyue on 11 July 2004 Chinese Embbutty Website in Pakistan --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On July 10th, Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong made his so-called unofficial visit to Taiwan, regardless of solemn representations repeatedly made by China . We are firmly opposed to official exchanges in any form between the Taiwan authorities and the countries that have diplomatic relations with China. Whatever pretext the Singaporean leader uses for his visit to Taiwan, the visit will damage China's core interest and the political foundation for China-Singapore relations .

Reported in Bloomberg 12 July 2004 19:41EDT by Linus Chua -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- China's central bank Governor Zhou Xiaochuan canceled a speech in Singapore after his government criticized Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's visit to Taiwan. .Singapore's foreign affairs ministry reiterated Sunday the city-state's backing for China's `one-China Policy' and said it doesn't support independence for Taiwan. It added that Lee was making a private and unofficial visit to Taiwan to meet friends in what's his first trip to the island since 1992.

China opposes Lee Hsien Loong's visit to Taiwan(12-07-04) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ China expressed strong dissatisfaction with and protest against the visit by Lee Hsien Loong, deputy prime minister of Singapore, to Taiwan, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue in Beijing on July 11. . Lee, neglecting China's repeated solemn representations, insisted on heading for Taiwan for a so-called unofficial visit on July 10. Zhang said the Taiwan issue is directly related to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and the Chinese government firmly opposes official relations in any form between countries that have established diplomatic ties with China and the Taiwan authorities. The Singaporean leader hurts China's core interests, the political base between the two countries and the feeling of 1.3 billion Chinese people, by heading for Taiwan under any excuse, said the spokeswoman.

Reported in The Straits Times 16 July 2004 by Jason Leow: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CCTV4 program aired criticisms by Professor Tao Wenzhao of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The professor is reported to have said : '.The visit has hurt the political foundations for Sino-Singapore ties . No country in the world which has diplomatic ties with China, except Singapore, would send a deputy prime minister or a finance minister to visit Taiwan .The visit is absolutely unacceptable".

Reported by buttociated Press on 19 July 2004 PRC to call off study plans in Singapore --------------------------------------------------------- .Singapore initially described Lee's trip as "private and unofficial," and that he would be meeting "friends." But as official Chinese anger became clear, Singapore later defended the trip with a four-page statement, saying Lee, as prime minister, needed to understand "a potential flash point" in Asia .

Reported in CRI.com 21 July 2004 China Criticizes Lee Hsien Loong's Visit --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan says at a regular press conference . Kong Quan says Lee's defense of his visit is contradictory as he said his visit was private at first, but then he said the visit was to maintain Singapore's interest. . Lee, the son of Singapore's founding father Lee Kwan Yew, said in a written response to the media last Friday that he had declined China's request not to go, as it would have undermined the city state's independence.

Reported in China Daily on 23 July 2004 by Wang Jianmin Taiwan Trip Tightens Tension ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's visit to China's Taiwan Province earlier this month drew great attention and earned a rebuke from China. . Recently, Lee Hsien Loong said he was very concerned about the Taiwan Straits security situation, and Singapore was willing to facilitate cross-Straits dialogues by hosting arrangements like the Wang-Koo Meeting. . It should be pointed out that Lee's visit to Taiwan was a continuation of special relations between the island province and Singapore. . Since the early 1990s Taiwan and Singapore have maintained a close political affinity though no formal diplomatic relations exist between them. The leaders of Singapore and Taiwan have been on good terms and often exchange visits at the high level. When Lee Teng-hui was in power, Taiwan and Singapore constantly made breakthroughs in their relationships. . As I see it, economic considerations play a very important role in pushing Lee Hsien Loong to rush to Taiwan despite Beijing's admonishment. .

Reported in Straights Times on 23 July 2004 by Jason Leow China Rejects DPM Lee's Reasons for Taiwan Visit ------------------------------------------------------------------------ China Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said . Relations between China and Singapore have taken a sharp dip since Mr Lee made his three-day private and unofficial visit to Taiwan on July 11 to see friends and get a feel of the situation there. . By ignoring China's repeated advice and persisting with the visit Mr Lee had harmed China's core interests and damaged the political foundation of Sino-Singapore relations. He said Mr Lee had also contradicted himself by first calling the visit 'private and unofficial' and then saying it was undertaken to protect Singapore's interests as he was soon to become prime minister. 'As everyone knows, Lee Hsien Loong has been in the upper echelons of the Singapore Government for many years. Hence, his status cannot be changed by such a statement as 'unofficial and private visit'. 'Furthermore, while Lee Hsien Loong was in Taiwan, the Taiwanese authorities accorded him a so-called 'head-of-state' reception. Hence, Singapore's explanation is not tenable.'

Mr Kong also rejected Mr Lee's point about wanting to familiarise himself with the situation in the Taiwan Strait and promote regional peace and stability. . 'But the truth is, his visit has already become one that connives with and lends support to 'Taiwan independence' forces. It is detrimental to regional peace and stability and will ultimately harm Singapore's own interests.' . Mr Lee also said in his written responses that if Singapore were to call off the trip at China's request, Singapore's right to make independent decisions would be undermined and its international standing damaged. Mr Kong's rejoinder yesterday was: 'Why should Singapore's rights and international standing come at the expense of China's sovereignty and core interests? This is both unreasonable and illogical.' .

In 2004 Lee Hsien Loong's Rally speech Reported By Chua Lee Hoong ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ". When interests diverge... they have to put theirs first, and so must we . cross strait situation . potentially the most dangerous problem. "

He had decided to visit Taiwan, he said, because . war could break out if Taiwan moved towards independence. He thus wanted to understand the thinking of his Taiwanese friends and contacts, among them some key leaders on both sides of the political fence, and to do so he could not just rely on media and other reports.
