Probably not in the short term, or while those who presently hold power in the US are in charge, but they're going to have to do it sometime.
I'm nowhere near as confident as you are about that (that they're going to be able to ramp up their security forces quickly enough), but under the circumstances if you turn out to be right then it's the best thing that can happen. I'm not that optimistic.
That's true, but the Japanese weren't divided like Iraq is along religious and ethnic lines. No-one can tell what would have happened if the Japanese hadn't got the post-war buttistance they did, but based on the speed the *did* accomplish reconstruction with that help, I'd say they would have pulled themselves back up by the bootstraps over a longer period. It's a hypothetical and there's not much point debating it, but I don't see the two cases as being that similar.

Maybe. I'd like to be able to give you strong reasons why you're wrong, but I can't. There's an awful lot of variables in this. The Kurdish situation will have the attention of the Turks as interested parties.
I don't think it is any more, with the nuclear stakes being raised. The Yanks can't afford to think in small squares when other states close by (esp. Israel) are affected by Iran's decisions.
