Well, immediate change would be nice for those who are fighting for it, but there's no reason to expect it. The vote for Ahminejad should show you that there is strong support for extremism in Iran.
You and I don't have the courage of Gandhi or Martin Luther King, Jr. - or for that matter, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German pacifist who was end by the Nazis. That shouldn't cause us to respect the pacifists less. I think they are a light unto the World.
For some people, there are things more important than their own survival.
But where do you get off presuming to sit in judgment of a people?

I don't accept it as either. I don't think there's some kind of gigantic brain that runs the Universe. Nor do I think reincarnation is a tyranny. The derivation of the word "agnostic" is "not knowing." I think that admitting one doesn't know things is appropriately humble, when the evidence doesn't seem to be there for any overriding hypothesis or conceit. I suppose I believe in God after a fashion, but if you ask me to elaborate, I can't really cite more than feelings and serendipitous coincidences that feel like more to me, so to a large degree, I am agnostic about things. I admit that I don't and probably can't know many things: The power of the human brain is finite. I can't make any logic out of why God should seem to be "with" some people, but it is much easier to explain misfortune as caused by some combination of actions by human beings and results of large natural processes.
? Matter existed many billions of years before there were any sentient beings. Certainly, that's true at least of the Earth.
Arrange events? I don't see it. All living things have a sphere of activity open to them. I used to have a cat that loved to eat geckos. Geckos made him sick. Every time he ate one, he threw up. Yet he continued to eat geckos. Was it the Universal Mind that was punishing him for bad karma by inducing him to eat geckos and suffer? No. It was the fact that he obviously loved their taste and was apparently not intelligent enough to make the connection between eating geckos and throwing up - or maybe he was, and liked them so much, he ate them anyway (though I consider that doubtful).

Hitler did ultimately commit dissolution. But Pol Pot inded escaped punishment for his crimes.
