Howards words a clear, a 10 cent a litre reduction in the tax on fuel will cost $3.8 Billion.

Now it's DISTINCTLY POSSIBLE that Howard, an inveterate liar is presenting false information here.. but I have based my calculations on ACCEPTING that his figures are accurate.

The Federal government has two taxes on petrol, the Excise, and the GST. We were discussing the GST, (until the figures showed what a clueless twonk Kweerjabber is ;-)

At 139.4 cents a litre Howards excise is 37.3 cents-litre and Howards GST is 12.6 cents per litre.

Howard is saying that to REDUCE his 'fuel taxes' by 10 cents a litre would cost 3.8 billion. (There is no '10 cent a litre tax', as Kweerjabber will try and pretend! )

That's $3,800,000,000

or $380,000,000 for every ONE cent reduction.

$4.788 Billion actually, I was being conservative.

( $380,000,000 * 12.6 = $4,788,000,000 )

If you include the Excise in the calculation, (I was only discussing GST, and the Government has previously argued that Excises aren't taxes! (sic) but just to show what a COMPLETE f***ing TOSSER Kweerjabber is, lets calculate the TOTAL WINDFALL to the government including not only the GST, but the EXCISE AS WELL B^)

Excise is 37.3 cents per litre.

As a 10 cent reduction in Howards 'fuel tax' costs $3.8 billion, (his own words) then a cut of even 30 cents would cost $11.4 billion!!!!

Or to be precise, a cut of 37.3 cents would be;

$380,000,000 * 37.3 = $14,174,000,000

Lets recap; based on Howard's figures, removing the GST would cost the government $4,788,000,000

If we add in the cost of Howard removing the Excise AS WELL as the GST, then we would get back a further $14,174,000,000

presumably Kweerjabber still maintains that a COMBINED total, GST + EXCISE, a f***ING HUGE NINETEEN BILLION DOLLARS.. is also 'not a huge windfall"

Howard's Federal Excise: 37.3 (25%)

Add those 3 together: 126.8 cents litre

Howards 10 % GST : 12.6 " "

then a 12.6 cent reduction in the Goods and Services TAX on FUEL costs $4.788 billion..

There is no doubt that cutting the OTHER Howard fuel tax, the Excise, would cost even more, around $14 billion..

but I'm sure you will be in even greater denial over that!

As the price of petrol has approximately doubled since the GST was implemented, the Governments GST tax gouge has similarly doubled. Quite a windfall.

The excise further compounds the tax gouge.. but I hadn't got into that because I like to roast you over a slow fire. ;-)

So.. all you have to do is square that away with HOWARDS claim not mine, that to sacrifice 10 cents a litre of fuel tax would cost him $3.8 Billion.

You can use the figures of 37.3 cents-litre Excise and 12.6 cents-litre GST which I provided or you can provide your own calculations.. or, most likely, do as you have done to date... invent, lie, spin, evade, bullpoo and avoid the truth.
