About the same time as you. You can not tell me, that a person in Australia, from ANY culture, does not recognise that beating a girl with a hunk of wood, then raping her, is
1. Against the law in this country 2. Is abhorrent behaviour
Hardly ever happens.
Well it should have. This is a failure in policing.
If you think that behaviour is some part of the common understanding of aboriginal people of Arnhem Land then you are sadly mistaken.
I don't want to lynch anyone. I do not want to see our rule of law condone buttault and rape because of persons skin colour or cultural bias. It's hard enough being a proponent of multi-culturalism in this country as it is, without the courts making such flagrant and wrong judgments on punishment.
About 5 years ago, if you care to remember, I was agog, and very vocal (not just in newsgroups) about an aboriginal woman who stole a can of Coke from a bottle shop in Kingscliffe. Her excuse was "She didn't have any money and she was thirsty". How can a person be thirsty after walking into Darwin from the long grbutt? This missive cost her 12 months.
This judgement is not only racist, it is also loveist!
You should wash more often then.
