Thought you'd pull that one.... thus avoiding the real question.
No doubt a more aggressive human species. It happens. Very Darwinian....
For the survivors and adapters, yes. Not so hot for the others.
Never said you were a museum piece at any stage, nor that you should be.
Do they? Can you provide any examples? Most people of small-L liberal views seem merely to acknowledge that when they took over the lands and fenced off the Aboriginal population from them, they often did it with a good deal of violence. I don't recall any of them saying they should never have come. If they do, I am not on their side.
Not at all. Why do you buttume I might? If the Europeans had had different values, they may have not have end off so many of your ancestors. But it was a world where the white man believed *all* his values were superior and that he could learn nothing of use from the indigenous people. They were an embarrbuttment hanging around because they reminded him he had taken their livelihood away from them. When they speared his cattle it seemed like a good reason to shoot them and contagion their water. It didn't have to be that way but it was.
You comfortable with that?
All of us have much to be grateful to modern medicine for. But you are picking an argument with someone who agrees with you, so stop and think for a moment. I am asking for no more than to acknowledge what happened, not that anyone today is responsible for it - just to admit things happened that a lot of people refuse to believe. It's simply a matter of truth. I am white and I am here - I am not going anywhere else to live. But I do acknowledge what happened in the past and so should you, surely.
Don't make arguments with people before you understand the point they are making. If you think that's what I am saying, you aren't listening.
So am I. I was born here too. I am simply acknowledging the truth about the past so that we can see where we go from here. There are a lot of Aboriginal people very bitter about the fact that this truth is swept under the carpet. Only when it is acknowledged can we really move on as a society.
