Nev suffers from Blatherskite... an inability to see and understand. It causes him to 'extrapolate' meanings rather than to percieve them.. and as you can see it's a haphazard process which rarely intersects with reality.
Key things to watch for;
He will respond to his imagination, invention, ..in short LIES about what was said, inventing misconceptions and placing them in the mouth of his protaganist.
This is because nev finds his chances of defeating Nev in a debate are much higher than actually engaging with your words and ideas.
He will go off into Blatherskite mode whenever he has been rationally pinned, rebutted and eviscerated...
it's like the broken wing dance that a bird will do to protect her chick.. only in Nev's case it's "If i babble on they will be distraceted from where i just made a fool of myself"
You see the results of such an ineffectual strategy.
Do not try to follow Nevs 'train of thought' it has derailed..
