Do the US need a reason to attack another country, beyond playing to the galleries of people wanting to feel patriotic at home? They attacked Grenada some years ago so they could get a cheap win. They mibed Managua Harbour in Nicragaua and funded a person movement against the government there. They invaded Lebanon before a mbuttive truick plant forced them to leave. They backed Saddam as he was attacking Iran during the 1980s. They declined to accept a Taliban offer handing over Osama to an international court and instead invaded there. They planted Libya for no particular reason, killing Gaddafi's daughter. They are now talking openly about attacking Iran.

Seriously, the DPRK is a brutally repressive, sclerotic little cult in charge of an unfortunate group of people whose main aim is to keep things much as they are. If outsiders left them alone, they'd probably leave outsiders pretty much alone too. Years ago they were kidnapping Japanese citizens in order to find ways of infiltrating Japan, but they haven't done that for years. They are a truly repulsive lot, but they are probably no worse than China was in about 1966.
The best thing anyone could do with them is to make it possible for them to trade unimpeded with the outside world and to open the doors to people wanting to flee, facilitating egress. That's going to be much more effective than trying to isolate them, which just strengthens the hand of the regime.
