Around Asia, Europe & Australia at least. I haven't been to the States for 18 years now.
They'd better not use a bolt cutter on any of my luggage!
Do they do this routinely? Or just when they suspect luggage? In that case do they document them breaking your property so you can claim back off the airlines?
In my case they'd have to do some severe damage as I use Samsonite cases with built in combination locks as well as Samsonite luggage straps around the outside, also with combination locks. They'd physically have to wreck AUD700 (staff discount) worth of suitcase to get into it. And I'm damn sure I'd be claiming it.
Oz couldn't take it 2974I organize my travel baggage in three categories. 1. Critical stuff like pbuttport, driver's license, credit cards, money...
In the smaller airports around here you have to put your bags through a scanner before check-in, and get a seal put on the zipper.

This was also the case at Changi until very recently, and I believe the checks are now done down in the bowels of the airport after check-in. sniffer - dunno whether it was for drugs or explosives though.
KLIA has no checks done before check-in. As it's a new airport, presumably checks are done automatically down below after check-in.
According to something I read, this bag was too big to go through the normal conveyor system.

Good looking? I must have been in Asia to long! :-)
But you are right about the defence - there was none.
