POLICE ABUSE? ARE CHILDREN HARMED?
I do not know on whether I am wasting any of your time but I cannot be at ease without reporting this!
Recently I happened to pbutt by a HDB void deck. The location is irrelevant. In the adjacent car park were parked two police cars and there were in my view four or five police officers present! Two police officers were in the car park area seemingly talking to and probably receiving details from a group of Malay male teenagers and pre-teenagers probably ranging between the ages of 10 -15.
When pbutting by the void deck I had witnessed two other police officers at the void deck had isolated a Malay boy probably 14 years old or so for questioning. Both officers probably did not notice my presence as they were facing away from my direction. One of the police officers was a Chinese female sergeant. While I pbutted by I heard her questioning the Malay boy, and the boy answering in a normal conversational tone but I could make out what they were talking about.
While I proceeded to walk by came the rude shock suddenly! This Chinese female sergeant started screaming at the Malay Boy in the following manner or at least to that effect: " ARE YOU LYING TO ME?! WERE YOU LYING EARLIER TO ME?! I WILL CHARGE YOU!!! I WILL CHARGE YOU!!! DO YOU KNOW THAT IT IS A CHARGEABLE OFFFENCE TO LIE TO A POLICE OFFICER???!!! DO YOU KNOW THAT IT IS A CHARGEABLE OFFFENCE TO LIE TO A POLICE OFFICER???!!! I WILL CHARGE YOU FOR LYING TO A POLICE OFFICER???!!! "
Now both the male and female police officers were much bigger than this poor little Malay boy. He was standing there conversing with them and was not even attempting to run. Whatever he might have said or done, does it warrant a SCREAM from a police officer?
It is a chargeable offence to threaten abuse or not cooperate with authorised public servants. However do the privilege to detain and investigate also give police officers (public servants) the right to abuse their authority, which comes from the public?
How could young teenagers know what is law and what is not? How could the general society and the government expect them to abide by the laws when society and the government have done nothing to proliferate the knowledge about the laws among the general population? There are even police officers who do not know about the local laws!
In a separate incident I was alone at night in a dimly lit public place, and was approached by a police corporal to identify myself. Even after producing the necessary documents I was queried of the motive of my presence. Having provided the reason, I insisted that whatever the reason may be I had the consbreastutional right to be there and that it was the duty of the police officer to uphold and protect the Consbreastution of Singapore and my right to be there. At this moment the police corporal looked blur and provided no reply! I further queried on whether the police corporal could remember taking the oath to uphold and protect the Consbreastution of Singapore? Again the police corporal looked blur and provide no reply! Finally I asked as to whether the police corporal at least know what the Consbreastution of Singapore is and what Consbreastutional Rights are? The police corporal not only looked blur but offered some other unrelated answer and moved away! I know that police corporal avoided me for I seemed at that moment to speaking some alien language from some far away galaxy.
Yes, there are trained police officers who do not know what the Consbreastution of Singapore is and what are Consbreastutional rights!
But yet there is a system that lends authority to police officers to abuse children!
ARTICLE 152 of the Consbreastution of Singapore says the following :
Minorities and special position of Malays 152. -(1) It shall be the responsibility of the Government constantly to care for the interests of the racial and religious minorities in Singapore. (2) The Government shall exercise its functions in such manner as to recognise the special position of the Malays, who are the indigenous people of Singapore, and accordingly it shall be the responsibility of the Government to protect, safeguard, support, foster and promote their political, educational, religious, economic, social and cultural interests and the Malay language.
I doubt on whether the special rights of the Malays were taken into account when local Malay male citizens are caned for drug consumption while foreign non-Malay women are not caned for the same offence. To think of all the talk by the government of Singapore that citizens should have more privileges and protection than PRs and foreigners I could only conclude that the Government of Singapore had taken Singaporean for a ride with many lips' services!
The incident of the Chinese female sergeant screaming at the young Malay boy is important in the sense that if police could openly abuse their position with disregard to article 152 of the Consbreastution of Singapore and with disregard to proper behaviour and Consbreastutional Rights of the larger population and threaten and scream at detainees in public then one could only wonder what goes on within the confines of four walls with no windows in police premises!
All those reports that appear in the newspapers where the accused claim that they were coerced into giving damaging confessions involuntarily now to me appear to be true even with all those denials from the police! Even if the courts could accept them, so far no court of law had provided convincing reasons on why these statements were accepted when there still exist reasonable doubts.
Police abuse of children should be disallowed at any rate. Based on what I witnessed that day was evident enough that these police officers were ill trained or not trained in child psychology.

Neurologically though female and male brains may mostly handle language semantics and syntax similarly, they are seen to handle emotions differently to a certain large extent! Meaning that Female and male brains do work differently!
Neurologists recently had reported that male and female adolescents who had not been bullied during their younger years would react differently during the later years of adolescence. Females are detected to react aggressively while males resign to habits like alcoholism to escape the memory and experience of such incidents. However when bullied at a younger age, both female and male adolescents are seen to adopt and adapt better to and are resilient to future bullying. But do police officers when they bully teenagers know what traumas they are causing to these teenagers?
Babies born prematurely, though could be made to survive, are mentally not as progressed intellectually as babies that are born from full terms. Now it is recorded that female children born prematurely are capable of mentally brain wise normalising the disadvantage caused by the premature birth. However male children are not recorded to overcome the negative effects of premature births and are less intelligent then the others.
Now if police officers were to abuse threaten and bully these children, what could be the outcome? What could a mentally less intelligent child do to respond rationally?
The mental ability of the normal human brain consists of the functions to rationalise any and all events and respond responsibly and rationally. These functions inhibit anti-social behaviours and violence. However recently it had been discovered that such abilities are only fully developed at the average of 25. Such discoveries are even forcing governments to rethink the legal age for driving for any young person under the age of 25 could scientifically be reckless.
So is police abuse threats and bullying of young persons with undeveloped less than fully rational thinking brains and minds going to force them to be more reckless? Could the government of Singapore do more to reduce the damage that it causes through its police force onto the young of society?
Could the President of Singapore under whose authority the police force is formed find that it the responsibility of the presidency to do something about this lack of concern from the police force? Besides let us not forget that there are many under 25 young police officers out there who also do not possess full rational brains and minds. Could their abuse of authority be more damaging to them and the young of society? Should these police officers be subjected to more psychological trainings including child psychology?
I hope that the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the government do care about the society and its children!
