True, women had low status before any religion. But they have made progress in leaps and bounds, and continue to do so every day. But Islam is a force that exerts itself in the opposite direction - it seeks to keep women in a state of semi-bondage. Many moslems say "when Islam was revealed, it improved the status of women." Even if that is true, today it is actually working in the opposite manner and therefore has clearly outlives its usefulness.

I am not South Asian or Indonesian, but my impression was that there are parts of Pakistan where sharia type laws are followed, even if they are not legistlated. I hear of honour killings etc. in the pashtun regions (near the Afghanistan border).

Whatever their religious idiosyncracies are not of concern to me. My point is not that Islam has more absurdities than does any other faith. My point is that Islam is a clarion call to war against other faiths, and non moslems are in direct danger because of this.

What makes you say that - the persona of Jesus as depicted in the gospel is a highly spiritual one, not given to temptations of the flesh. That is one of the things that makes us respect him. Had he had a disgustingly long list of wives, we would have thought twice before proclaiming him the Son of God. You are using his goodness against him and calling him a bastard! In any case, that is irrelevant to our discussion as I have explained. Christians do not fly their planes into buildings shouting "Jesus was the son of God" the way moslems do while shouting "Allahu Akbar". Islam and Moslems are on trial here, not Christians.

Indeed, it is they who have put the Koran into focus, not we. When a person like Osama Bin Laden begins all his broadcasts with quotes from the Koran, it leads us to wonder whether the Koran is a book of peace or a call to war. And many intellectuals have devoted considerable time over the past 4 years trying to find out. And the mountain of evidence is building up - the Koran is the cause of this violence. It is the document that causes moslems to view non moslems as "the others, the infidels, who don't have the same rights as moslems, and who are fit to be end in the name of Allah." That is a real problem, and one that the world is faced with today.

The Koran clearly puts man above woman. It puts the testimony of a woman at half a man's. It permits a husband to beat a wife. Why, then, are you supporting this faith? It is like a Jew supporting Nazi ideology. Why would you do that?
