Pakistan and some Indians consider India Pakistan relations vis a vis the US is a zero sum game and until Clinton so did the US. Now US relations with India are dictated by each country's(India and the US's) strategic world view and the other country's position in this world view. In case of both India and the US there is strategic meeting of the minds on the world view. In case of Pakistan and US relations, the relationship is not strategic but tactical and is governed solely by Pakistan being a water carrier for the Afghanistan War and the fact Musharraf is keeping the lid down on the welling Jihadism in Pakistan. Musharraf is an important cog in the wheel and if this cog breaks on its own or is broken it could be disastrous not only for the US but also for India, with crazies like Hamid Gul, the ISI and the Jihadis waiting in the wings to take over. As somebody said Pakistan is like lunatic with a gun aimed at its own head threatening dire consequences if it commits dissolution. This is why the Bush Administration is showering largesse far and wide in Pakistan that is apparently being channeled to the feudal families. Gopal Seeker
