There are at least two ways of defining areas in the world - one is physical, which you are trying to do, and the other is political. If you are using only a physical definition - as you clearly are, though you refer to 'nations' (which is a political term) - then it can mean one thing while political determinants make it mean another.

Right now, near middle and far east are all out of fashion because they imply that Britain-Western Europe is the centre of the world that they are near and far from. So they are just conventions and nothing more. As are the precise boundaries between them.

No - there's no right or wrong in this at all. There's just general agreement on what particular terms mean, with plenty of labreastude for variables in interpretation. For example, is Australia part of Asia or not? That is not a yes or no question. Nor is where the boundaries of Asia and Europe are. Is Turkey Asia or European? Where's the precise boundary? Can't you see this is the subject of debate, depending on the criteria used for definitions?
